House MD is a top rated TV show about a doctor (Hugh Laury) who solves medical cases with his Sherlock Holmes like powers of deduction and wit. While working at Encore Hollywood, I created several shots for this show, usually doing then entire shot from boards through 3D and compositing using Max and Fusion.

House Season 5, Episode 7 "The Itch" - Lead Poisoning

This was the first shot i worked on at Encore, so i simply assisted the supervisor, Kurt McKeever, by creating elements, including the animated rotting texture for the lead poisoning and the bullet fragments.

House season 5, Episode 8 "Emancipation" Hat Chop

For this shot i created the hard hat getting chopped by the pneumatic guillotine. I simply took the hat image from the video plate, camera mapped it onto hat geometry, and animated it and composited it back into the scene.

House Season 5, Episode 9 "Last-Resort" Sweat on Forehead 1

This "invisible" fx for the next 4 shots required that I add sweat beads to the forehead of the actor. I tracked his head with Boujou, and added sweat beads in 3D and comped them in fusion.

House Season 5, Episode 11 "Joy to the World" Embryo

For my first big shot, I created an illustration of parthenogenesis, which is when an embryo forms without fertization from sperm. I was responsible for everything in this shot. The metaballs in the cell subdivision turned out to be very heavy and exerted a toll that prevented the shot from looking better in rendering. But considering the ultra tight turnoud, (about 2 weeks), it turned out reasonably well.

House Season 5, Episode 12 "Painless" Drop

Here I added the drop that splashes onto House's neck. To create the fluid dynamics, I used Glu3D plugin for Max.

House Season 5, Episode 12 "Painless" Splash 1

The next 3 shots consisted of water augmentation. There was flowing water in the plate, but not enough to be very dramatic. So i added more plumes of water. I used Glu3d to achieve the fluid dynamics.

House Season 5, Episode 16 "The Softer Side" Lung

Here I created the effect of dyed blood flowing into the veins of the lungs. This involved building a model of the lung with texture coordinates going down the veins so that I could use a texture transform to create the effect where the blood appears to flow down the veins. Finally, I  tracked the video plate and and composited the animation onto the video of the lung shot in practical, adding the flashing inverted colors to suggest the look of the MRI machine.

House Season 5, Episode 22 "House Divided" Car Exhaust 1

On the next 2 shots, I added the smoke coming out of the tail pipe of the car. I used Fume to achieve the effect.

House Season 5, Episode 14 "The Greater Good" Liver

The next 4 shots go in a sequence that depict endometriosis. Stem cells from the uterus travel throughout the body and take up residence in other organs, and bleed when the woman menstruates. For these shots, i added globs of blood to each of the video plates. I tracked the  video, and rendered and composited the blood globs into each shot.

House Season 5, Episode 22 "House Divided" Drill into Brain

For these last two shots, I added medical instruments to the shot. In this case its the drill going into the back of the skull. i tracked the shot in Boujou, modeled, shaded and rendered the bit, and comped in with Fusion.

House Season 5 Episode 22 "House Divided" Breathing Tube

I added the breathing tube for this shot. It was quite a bit trickier than the drill, as it had to match an existing tube and emerge from the moth with the proper look and shadows. I ended up painting out the entire original tube except for the little auxiliary tube that attaches mid way.

Zombieland - Swinging Splatter

I made this shot, from the movie Zombieland, while working at Encore, so that is why I included it here. I had to create the effect of the zombies splattering and flying off screen after impact with the swinging ride. The ride, the floor, background elements, and the blood were created in 3D. The actors were shot being pulled offscreen, but it had to be massaged thoroughly to make it appear seamless.I did the 3D, tracking and compositing.
