Knight Rider

For the remake of Knight Rider, I worked with a very small vfx team, Master Key Films, with just a few 3d artists to create all of the 3d vfx for this episodic TV show. Included are some of the shots that I worked on and a few experiments.

Episode 1 - Kit transforms into truck Day - part 1

I created the transform animation of Kitt transforming from "attack mode" into a truck, which can be seen here and the next 3 shots. I tracked the shot, and placed the transforming vehicle into the scene, and lit and rendered the shot. The smoke is practical, as the production team shot the actual vehicle which was then rotoscoped out so that the CG car could be placed on top.

Episode 2 Kit transforms into Attack mode

Tracking this shot turned out to be challenging as the moving background would not permit a smooth track out of Boujou, so I had to track it by hand. I animated the movement of the car, but I did not create the transform animation on this sequence. I rendered, lit and composited this shot.

Bullet Hit test - Kitt

This clip shows a test for how a bullet might hit Kitts body, and regenerate the impact crater. I created this effect with a series of custom animated maps that displaced the crater and reveal the cycling circuitry refracted beneath the surface.

Fly in the eye

For this shot i added the fly, animated its movement, created the shadow so that it appears to sit on top of the actor, and compostited the shot.
